This is the second time that I have had a stray animal come to my home and I have gone to the City of Manteca Animal Shelter seeking help. Last year i found a small dog matted and skin & bones curled up in my front yard in the bushes. Last night there was a baby dove/pigeon on my lawn that somehow fell out of it's nest. Lucky me...I am an absolute animal lover and would do anything to help save an animals life, so both times I went to the City of Manteca Animal Shelter to seek their help. I first contacted the wildlife rescue off of In Hughson, but since it was not native wildlife hey said to take the bird to my local shelter, and so I did. Both times the female officers inside have absolutely criminalized me and made me feel like I was doing something illegal by bringing in animals that need help. They are beyond rude and aggressive. When I brought the dog in last year they first did not want to accept it, so I asked them what I should do? I could not keep it over night and it was almost the weekend. They said that if I let the dog go that it would be considered abandonment and hat they would ticket me. I had to beg them to keep the dog and the finally did. They show no remorse or compassion for animals much less the people trying to help them. I cannot understand how the City would allow this behavior??? All I want to do is the right thing. I don't ask for stray animals to come to my home, they just seem to flock there. It's absolutely demeaning the way that these officers treat people that are trying to do the right thing. It makes me so incredibly sad. If o could rescue and keep all of the animals, I absolutely would, but there are laws against that. Good luck to anybody that walks in here, you will need it.

Terrible experience all around. To kick it off someone at the shelter fed the dog we were adopting before she went out to be spayed causing complications. I had to spend extra money on antibiotics due to complications during surgery (which when I told the shelter they said that was my problem). We got the dog home and recovered. Their description of the dogs personality online couldn't have been more wrong. The dog was not at all laid back or kid friendly. She tried to attack my toddler. When taking the dog back not only would they not refund my money they tried to charge me again for dropping the dog off. I would have kept the dog for any other reason and worked on training but I can not have a dog in my house that will hurt my children. The officers are rude and couldn't care less.

The worst customer service ever, nobody ever returns your call, they're rude, impatient, and don't take the time to listen or talk to you on the phone and in person. They really make it seem like your bugging them and they don't have a single minute for you. I was told by one lady that my dog had gotten her vaccines then told by another lady that she actually hadn't. They need a completely new staff, I feel bad for these animals that have to spend they're daily 6 hours with these cold people.
